The firmware for a samewire serf provides for complete configuration by remote commands.  Sensor data can be filtered and scaled (by point-slope) in the firmware.   Inputs can be connected to outputs with several control schemes and associated thresholds.  Outputs can be controlled by remote intelligence, but if the network is disrupted, the outputs can still be driven by safety thresholds using local inputs.
